6 - week pottery course: 4th April - 9th May, 2024

Discover the fun of pottery in our immersive 6 - week pottery course!

Join us at our studio in Leith for 6 Thursday evenings, starting from the 4th April until 9th May. The course will run from 5:30pm to 7:30pm and the 2 hour session will include clean up time.

You'll experience an introduction to wheel throwing, covering everything from centering the clay to pulling walls. Additionally, you'll gain proficiency in hand-building methods such as pinch pots and coiling. In the second half of the course you'll have the opportunity to decorate and glaze your creations before taking them home.

This course is suitable for beginners with no experience and also those with some basic knowledge and skills working with clay.

Class Schedule (6 weeks)

Week 1 – Fundamentals of hand-building techniques for half the group whilst the other half focus on wheel throwing.

Week 2 – Swap techniques as participants explore both wheel throwing and hand-building. Learn a simple handle making or foot ring technique.

Week 3 – Continue working on your pottery works, honing your skills in wheel throwing and hand building and finalising the making of your products. This will include trimming on the wheel.

Week 4 – Learn decorating techniques with surface carving and handles as well as trimming on the wheel. Finished works will be bisque fired after week 4.

Week 5 – Focus on underglaze surface decoration and trimming on the wheel. All remaining works will be bisque fired after week 5.

Week 6 – Complete the course by glazing your work in clear glaze, adding the final touches to your creations using wax or tape to for different glazing effects. All works will be glaze fired after week 6.

What to bring/wear:
- An apron/over shirt/overalls
- Wear warm clothes you don't mind getting a bit grubby, clay washes out but best to be prepared to get messy and the studio can chilly at this time of year.

Parking:
There is free parking on West Bowling Green street (although not many spaces) but be sure not to park in any of the private car parks as you might get a fine.

Final ware will be be fired and can be posted (for an additional fee) or collected from the studio once finished. Collection days and times TBC.

Please note that the workshop is nonrefundable and is subject to cancellation or re-scheduling if the minimum number required to make it viable is not reached prior to 3 days before the workshop is due to commence (5:30pm on Monday 1st April). In this situation, the following options will apply:

* Receive a full refund.
* Hold the space until a new date has been offered.
* Move the booking to another workshop.
* Receive a credit note to use at a future date
